Introduction to via ferrata for families with children in the Eastern Pyrenees
Supervised by an experienced instructor, you learn climbing and via ferrata techniques. The guide will be at your side throughout this adventure to guide you and ensure your safety.
Who is this via ferrata for?
This Via Ferrata course is intended for families with children or for beginners who want to try via ferrata for the first time and who have apprehensions.
Prerequisites
This activity requires a certain physical condition and we recommend that participants check whether they are able to do it before registering.
Participants must be at least 7 years old and weigh no more than 120 kg.
It is also necessary not to have any medical contraindication to the practice of climbing.
Where is the family via ferrata located?
Via Ferrata Pichona is located in Saint Paul de Fenouillet, just 45 minutes from Perpignan and its Mediterranean coast, in the Occitanie Pyrénées Méditerranée region.
Saint Paul de Fenouillet is located in the department of Pyrénées Orientales and more precisely to the south of Corbières.
In terms of driving time, it takes 30 minutes to get to Quillan, 45 minutes to Perpignan, 50 minutes to Barcarès and Canet Plage, and 1 hour to Argelès sur Mer.
Narbonne and Spain are 1 hour and 15 minutes’ drive away, while Carcassonne and Foix are 1 hour and 30 minutes away. Finally, it takes 2 hours to drive from Montpellier or Toulouse.

The Via Ferrata Pichona, in Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet, is considered to be of easy level with a moderate height gain.
The route, which lasts around an hour and a half, offers a breathtaking view of the Agly valley.
The total duration of the session is 2.5 hours, including on-site reception and equipment, which takes approximately 20 minutes.
Then there is an approach walk of just 2 minutes before starting the main activity, which lasts just over an hour.
After the activity, there is a short 10 minute walk back.
Finally, the session ends with de-equipping and closing the session, which takes approximately 20 minutes.
