Where is this cave?
This initiation cave is part of a network of caves located in the Galamus gorges, a few kilometers from the village of Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet in the Pyrénées-Orientales.
The caves were formed by the erosion of limestone rock, which created a network of caves and caverns on the banks of the River Agly. The site is known for its historical importance, as it houses the Hermitage of Galamus, a troglodyte monastery dating from the 11th century, clinging to the rock wall.
The village of Saint Paul de Fenouillet is easily accessible by car from various towns.
Just 40 minutes from Perpignan and Quillan, you can reach the beaches of Pyrénées-Orientales and the beaches of Aude in an hour (Barcarès, Argelès sur Mer, Leucate, Narbonne, etc.).
The towns of Narbonne, Carcassonne and Foix are more than an hour’s drive away, while Montpellier and Toulouse can also be reached in two hours.
